Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters book review:

If you read my blog then you will know that I really like the Percy Jackson series. It has all my favourite things in it: action, Greek myths and legends. Any Greek myth you have ever heard there's a chance it's probably in these books. On the back cover of the book they have a good comment about the book and each time I agree with them. On the first book it said: 'It's Buffy meets Artemis Fowl. Thumbs up' To be honest I've never heard of Artemis Fowl so I search it up and lets just say that it's on my book wishlist. Also, this time it said: 'Puns, jokes and subtle wit, alongside a gripping storyline'. They're all so true. I love all the little jokes that most people would miss however when you spot one it makes you smile. One made me laugh so much that my family gave me a really weird look then I explained it and they laughed as well. You don't even need to read the story to get some of the jokes. For instance in the first one they're on the bus and they've just started their first quest. Percy and Annabeth are talking about why their parents are rivals and one of the reasons is they competed to be the patron God of Athens. Then Percy goes out and says if Athena had invented pizza and not the olive tree then he could understand why the Greeks chose her. It doesn't sound to funny when I put it down like this however when you're reading it then it does make you smile at the least.
   Now back to this book. If you haven't read the first book then I would stop reading here because I can't give the most basic summary without telling you major bits about the first one. Luke has poisoned Thalia's tree and they go to find the Golden Fleece to heal it. It may sound weird that they go to all this trouble to heal a tree however the tree is the power source behind a force field that keeps all the monsters out of the camp. In the book series monsters don't die. You kill them and it could take days, months or years for them to come back. They are also attracted to the smell of half-bloods and that's why the children of powerful Gods stay at the camp all year round.
   When I read these book I really lose track of time. I always have to read before I go bed so I start reading and I look up to see the time and it's already past midnight. It's mad. I feel like I'm taken inside the book. For me they are the best types of book where they absorb you.

The Thornthwaite Inheritance:

I remember reading some of this book in year 5 and I really loved it. I know that was years ago however I still wanted to finish the book because so far I have never left a book unfinished. So I got it for Christmas and I just finished it. It's a really good book about twins whose parents have died and their servants look after them in Thornthwaite Manor. Since they can remember they have been trying to kill each other so the other could get all the inheritance. Then they make a truce however the death attempts keep happening.
   It doesn't really sound like year 5 me should have been reading this however it's surprisingly not that bad. Even if it is aimed at younger kids I really loved and it doesn't really matter your age for this book. For the actual length of the book I finished it quite quickly. It only took me two days to finish so if you want a book for a weekend away this is the one. I think my favourite character iso Ovid Thornthwaite. He made me laugh at some parts of the book when everyone else is all serious he's just there like nothing happened.
   And time for everyone's favourite part of the post. Author facts: I couldn't really find much about the author of this book so this is all I got. Gareth P. Jones is a British children's writer and his book The Considine Curse won the Blue Peter Book of the Year 2012.

Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief book review:

I never really do this with books that have film however I unfortunately watched the film first. However, in my defence I didn't know it was a book until it said at the end that is was based on the book by Rick Riordan. I really love Greek mythology so the film really appealed to me and I thought that after I had watched the film that I had ruined the book for myself however it didn't. The is good however the book is amazing. The film left out so much it was like a different storyline altogether. Anyway the book is about a boy called Percy Jackson that is a half-blood. His mum is a really good person that gets such with a bad person and Percy has to put up with him as a stepdad. And when I say bad I mean BAD. To the point that I wanted to step inside the book and punch him until he was black and blue.
   He goes to a summer camp and learns everything about the way the half-blood thing works. I'm trying to be really vague because it's such a good story and it's really well written. I like how Rick Riordan includes all the myths and doesn't change them just to fit in with his story unlike the movie that was based on this book.
   I think my favourite characters has to be Percy, Grover and Annabell. I can't choose between the three because they are all so likeable. Percy always makes funny comments that you can't help but laugh at. Also, because he's narrating there are other jokes that would sound weird if he said them that I love. Then there's Grover that makes me laugh with his eating habits, feet and legs. This may sound really weird however after you have finished this book then it will make loads more sense. Finally, Annabell. She's really clever and I first read this when I was in year 5 I had no idea what she was talking about however now I sort of get it. But I never understand the maths things she says. That was a bit of a major hint to what greek god is her mum and if you didn't get it from that them I wouldn't recommend reading this book. If you literally know nothing about the Greek Gods and the myths surrounding them then you probably won't get what half the monster, jokes and Gods are about.

Now for everyone's favourite part of the post. Author facts!!! Rick Riordan is American and was born June 5th 1964. Which makes him 51 years old.
